May 18, 2023, Kingston, Jamaica – The Blue Power Group, the nation’s largest manufacturer of soaps is thrilled to announce its recent acquisition of the historical site Ormsby Hall. This iconic landmark is located adjacent to Blue Power’s current Soap factory and allows for expansion of the business within the community which has been in operation for over 20 years. With the growth of over 60% in the last year, the company intends to add new production lines and the space will accommodate this growth. The Blue Power Group recognises the historical and cultural significance of Ormsby Hall as a tangible representation of the country’s history and is committed to safeguarding the building for future generations. The company plans to carry out medium to long term infrastructural developments but pledges to uphold the historical integrity of the building’s exterior through consultation with architects and heritage site experts.

General Manager of Blue Power Group Mr. Vishwanauth Tolan shares that the company has “instructed our architects to renovate the building while keeping the historical facade completely intact. We will then develop additional commercial facilities on the land in ways that are complementary to the existing structure.” The compound will be transformed into a mix of modern corporate offices and high value storage facilities. The site will also house at least one other business engaged in logistics services in a separate warehouse that will be developed in 2024. “We are committed to balancing the scale of historical preservation with economic advancement for the business, the community and Jamaica at large,” Mr. Tolan continued. Blue Power has always invested in the community through employment and community enhancement projects including Labour Day projects.

Ormsby Hall was originally located on Tower Street but was rebuilt at its present location after it was destroyed by the 1907 earthquake. It served as a space for hosting church and community activities for 90 years. The acquisition will answer the cries for renovation and will explore innovative ways for the community to enjoy the space while utilising it as a key part of a sustainable business. The property development will incorporate state-of-the-art facilities for increased production capacity and align with the long-term growth strategy of the Blue Power Group. Inherent to this expansion is increased employment opportunities during the construction phase and post-renovation for individuals in the community. The project is expected to break ground by the end of the year and be completed within 18 months.

According to Ms. Lisa Kong, Executive Director of Blue Power Group, the development will be financed with a mixture of bank debt and internal resources.
