WHO WE ARE
Blue Power was founded in 2001 by Dr. Dhiru Tanna and other leading business partners including Antony Hart C.D., Mark Hart, Jane Fray, Peter Millingen, and Kenneth Benjamin C.D. after previously coming together to start Lumber Depot in 1998. On recognizing that Jamaica is a large consumer of cake laundry soap the Lumber Depot founders made a strategic decision to begin a small laundry soap manufacturing operation at its premises at Victoria Avenue which was at the time being used as the Lumber Depot head office as well as storage facility for imported lumber.
After initially trading as a separate legal entity called Blue Power Limited which was later merged in April 2010 with Lumber Depot to form what we know today as the Blue Power Group Limited. Years of innovations and resilience against the challenges that come with every great feat, the Blue Power Group has since grown to be the largest manufacturer of bar soaps in Jamaica, it was the second listed company on the JSE Junior Stock Exchange. Now separated from Lumber Depot, Blue Power Group Limited focuses primarily on soap manufacturing for both in-house and third party brands and as the journey continues we can only promise to forge forth with all the principles we held since the beginning; consistency, great customer service and keen attention to detail.
Our Founder
Dr. Dhiru Tanna holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.Sc. (Econ) from the University of London. Presently, he serves as Deputy Chairman of JN Group, a Director of JN Bank, JN Fund Managers Ltd., and MCS Group Ltd. His past experience includes lecturing at UWI, Mona, being a special advisor to the Minister of Public Utilities and Transport, heading Jamaica National Investment Co. Ltd., serving on many boards including Neal & Massy Holdings Ltd. in Trinidad, Neal & Massy Group Jamaica Ltd. (as Chairman) and the Development Bank of Jamaica. Dr. Tanna is still quite active in operations at Blue Power as he is also the Chairman of our Board of Directors.
Management Team
Lisa Kong
Lisa Kong, who is an accountant by profession, is the Executive Director of the company. Her experience includes stints at KPMG, Caribbean Castings Ltd. and Neal & Massy Jamaica Ltd. She also serves as the Company Secretary. She sits on the Board of Lumber Depot Limited where she holds the position of Company Secretary and Financial Controller.
Vishwanauth Tolan
Vishwanauth Tolan is the company’s General Manager. He holds a BSc. In Management Studies and an MSc in Computer Based Management Information Systems, both from the U.W.I. Before joining the Blue Power team, he spent 8 years with the GraceKennedy Group where he held leadership roles across various business units locally and overseas including Grace Foods International, Grace Foods USA, Grace Foods Domestic, Dairy Industries Jamaica Limited, and the Global Category Management Unit. His background includes marketing, logistics, warehousing, and strategic planning. He is a past treasurer of the Rotary Club of Downtown Kingston and currently serves as General Secretary of the Jamaica Badminton Association
Andrienne Jones
Andrienne Jones is the Chief Accountant at Blue Power Group and holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Computing with Accounting from the University of Technology Jamaica and a Master of Science degree in Accounting from the University of the West Indies Mona. She spent 11 years being an educator of Business and Accounting in both the public and private sector.
